Shark Week
It is almost Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, and I went to see JAWS tonight at the AFI Silver...but there were NO SHARK HATS. However, the Discovery building in Silver Spring is adorned with shark parts!! Fins, tail, and head (though I didn't see the head, I can't personally vouch for that). I wish I worked for that company. They seem really cool. I mean...shark parts on a building? Nobody else I know does that.

Why is it such a pain to search for a job?
I went to the Library of Congress today
it was pretty awesome
then I went to Gallaudet and realized my signing is already slower than it was 2 weeks ago!!
the best part of the day was when it rained really really hard and I ignored it/enjoyed it
:)
I'm practicing for the daily deluges of the Pacific NW.

ASL Immersion Week
TISLP at Washington School for the Deaf
Vancouver, WA
I spent a day flying/checking out Portland, OR, and this is my favorite photo from that portion:

I think it means "bikers beware of the light rail tracks" but it might just mean "watch where you're going or you'll fall on your face."
The program was awesome--I met a lot of cool people and signed a lot. Voice off for whole week--I know many are surprised I was able to accomplish, but it's true :)

Garlic and Scrabble

Welcome to my blog!
Today I am thinking about garlic. It is a very potent spice. Or is it a spice at all? A root? a bulb? Whatever your pleasure, garlic has a very strong and lasting odor. I made pesto for my family this evening with a recipe from a farm in Oregon, and it called for quite a lot of garlic. Also for fresh basil, which I harvested from our porch.
Vegan Pesto
with love from Kings Valley
2 c. each packed basil leaves, toasted sunflower seeds (or walnuts or almonds-yum!), and water
about 8 cloves garlic, peeled and coarsley chopped
3/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. olive oil
Blend thoroughly in food processor or blender
Well, that's about all for today. The scrabble board is from the game my brother and I played tonight. it was a very close game, and I came out on top 240 to 239. We used all the letters.
